International Women's Day

International Women's Day has been observed since the early 1900's and in 1911 the day was honoured for the first time.


The Burnley Empire has had the honour of hosting a variety of female performers from around the world. One of everyones favourites is Madame Paula from Paris who performed at the Empire just 4 months after it opened in February 1895.


'Madame Paula, the Queen of the alligators, in her performance with several serpents and alligators, displayed coolness, nerve, strength, and resource.....'
