Burnley Civic Trust Members have discovered new images that were taken in 1970 at the beautiful Burnley Empire Theatre
It's a little-known fact that the Sound of Music was the last performance on stage at the iconic #BurnleyEmpireTheatre before Bingo topped the bill of the #MusicHall until 1995.
It's standing room only if people want to see the "Sound of Music" performed by the Burnley Light Opera Society which opened at the Empire last night
In 2016 the Burnley Civic Trust was gifted the Burnley Express Newspaper Archive by Johnston Press and they've been creating a digital archive since receiving a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2018. It's thanks to their hard work that we're able to see and share these photos from the many thousand that the Civic Trust have been working through over the past 2 years.
